Pope Leo reveals his political theology in Spain
During his addresses to political and diplomatic leaders in Spain, Pope Leo XIV laid out the political theology he believes should guide not only the church but also politicians and diplomats. He presented his vision in two speeches: one on Saturday (June 6), in the presence of King Felipe VI, to civic and diplomatic leaders; the other on Monday, to the Spanish Parliament. The church wishes to be in service to humans, Leo explained. It "walks alongside humanity, shares its hopes and its wounds, listens to the questions of every age and allows herself to be challenged by everything concerning the lives of contemporary men and women." To those who fear church interference in politics, the pope affirmed, "It is a service not marked by imposition."

Spain’s public broadcaster RTVE has apologized for a program that described the growth of Evangelical churches as “worrying” and portrayed them as “dangerous,” promising to handle religious issues with “the utmost care” following a wave of complaints from Evangelical organizations and viewers. According to a report by Evangelical Focus, the controversy began after the Sept. 22 episode of RTVE’s afternoon program Directo al Grano aired a segment that singled out Evangelical churches, using footage of congregations without consent and presenting them in a negative light. Religious rights group in Spain urges EU to create post to combat Christian hate crimes
A religious rights group in Spain is calling on the president of the European Commission to create a Special Coordinator to combat hate crimes against Christians. The Observatory for Religious Freedom in Spain (El Observatorio para Libertad Religiosa y de Conciencia, OLRC) on Wednesday (July 9) urged Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, to create the position equivalent to existing specialists to combat anti-Semitism and Islamophobia in the European Union. “It is imperative that the European Commission act with the same commitment it shows in the fight against other forms of religious hatred,” OLRC President María García said in a press statement.

On 14 June, thousands of evangelical Christians across Spain, from Galicia in the north to Andalusia in the south, from Catalonia to the Canary Island, joined together in a single cry: “Your Kingdom come, Lord, over Spain”. The prayer meetings,organised by the Spain,We Pray for You (España Oramos por ti) platform, once again filled squares, streets and churches in the 36 events that took place. The common theme of this year was the passage from Matthew 6:10: 'Your Kingdom come'. With this theme in mind, the Church prayed for the Kingdom to be established in the families, institutions, youth, children and society.
