Psalm 138
Psalm 138:2:
I will bow down toward your holy temple and will praise your name for your love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word. |
We have seen repeated examples of leaders who say one thing and do another. Once upon a time, a verbal contract meant something. Now, unless you get it in writing, it may be valueless, and even then one can attempt litigation to unbind the note. God, however, exalts his word as a crucial part of His own authority. We are fortunate to have a God who is not a man,for God is not a man that he should lie. He keeps his word and His word is better then gold. I have seen some men talk about their “sense” of God that when they get to judgment, they think they may be able to litigate their way around the Bible and claim that they just did not know.

God exalts his word and name above all things (Psalm 138:2). His words are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times (Psalm 12:6). They are perfect (Psalm 19:7). Because the words of the Bible are “God-breathed” (2 Timothy 3:16), they are living, active, able to penetrate our hearts (Hebrews 4:12) and to give life (John 6:63, 68). Therefore, Jesus prayed: “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth” (John 17:17). The Bible is not just true; it is truth itself — God’s divinely revealed standard of truth
Psalm 138:8:
The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O LORD, endures forever— do not abandon the works of your hands. |
Different translations use different words where this uses “love".....among them ” Mercy” and ” loving-kindness.” But both are aspects of Gods love. And it endures forever, which is one of those words we can only consider in relationship to time, yet "forever" is beyond that. It’s farther than our outer most thought as we try to even consider it. And thats how long God's love endures: well beyond our own imaginable “forever.” I think the second part of the verse best opens up Davids consideration in Psalm 139..do not abandon the works of your hands. O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me…...David knew who he himself was only because God both knew him and created him and his identity would be connected with God--forever!
