Psalm 110
Psalm 110:1:
The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.” |
No other passage from the Psalms is used so frequently in the New Testament as is Psalm 110:1. Jesus was the first to cite this psalm. He used it to point to His status as David's Lord or Master, even though the prevailing opinion among the Jews was that the Messiah was merely David's son (Matthew 22:41-45; Acts 2:33-35). Implicit is Jesus' own preexistence and deity. So this enthronement oracle, which seems to present Messiah as David's and/or Solomon's son, actually presents Him as David's Lord, namely, deity. And this is how the passage is used everywhere else in the New testament (to refer to Jesus as Lord), especially in Hebrews (1:3; 13; 8:1; 10:12; 12:2). --James DeYoung & Sarah Hurty (Beyond the Obvious p.33)
