Proverbs 29
Proverbs 29:1-10:
1 He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
3 Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance.
4 The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it.
5 A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his feet.
6 In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: but the righteous doth sing and rejoice.
7 The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it.
8 Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath.
9 If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.
10 The bloodthirsty hate the upright: but the just seek his soul.

Proverbs 29:18:
18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. |
It’s good to have a vision. Proverbs 29:18 warns that without vision, people perish. Jesus wants us to think seriously about the implications of following him before we commit (Luke 14:25-35). Scripture calls us to build our goals on things of lasting value and to fix our eyes on Christ and the joy that is to come (Matthew 6:19-21, 1 Corinthians 3:11-15, Colossians 3:2; Hebrews 12:1-3, 1 Corinthians 9:24, James 1:12). Living life aimlessly is a far cry from a purposeful Christian walk! -Tom Pietz; Crosswalk

We live in a world that seems spinning out of control. I believe it’s primarily because we’ve turned our backs on our Creator, the One who has laid out for us in His Word how we should live. As the King James Version puts it, “Where there is no vision, the people perish” (Proverbs 29:18). Another translation says it a bit differently – “Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint.” But then the verse ends, “but happy is he who keeps [God’s] law.”
As wondrous as the Bible is, the divinely inspired Word of God, it’s barely the tip of the proverbial iceberg about all that is possible to know about Him. But it definitely tells us all we need to know about Him. -Robert Tamasy

A vision is mental sight, dream, revelation, oracle or contemplate. Proverbs 29:18 tells us the people perish where there is no vision. We must have a picture in our mind in going on for God.
In 2 Corinthians 4:4, the Bible lets us to know that the enemy blinds the mind of God’s people and cause them to perish. To perish means to die, to lose one’s life, fail, expire or suffer death. We cannot allow the enemy to take our vision away by blinding our minds and causing us to perish. In Habakkuk 2:2, God told Habakkuk to write the vision that he may run that readeth it. To run means to go faster, go steadily, flee, go rapidly or move freely. In other words, when we get a vision then we will run faster than ever. In Mark 8:18, Jesus said they have eyes and do not see. In Matthew 9:29-30 and Matthew 11:5, Jesus touched their eyes. He also says in Matthew 13:16, blessed are your eyes; for they see. It is easy to see that vision is important to Jesus also. In Acts 26:19, Paul explains that he was obedient to the heavenly vision. Ananias, in Acts 9:10-15, was given a vision to go and pray with Saul after his heavenly vision. Paul again gets a vision in Acts 18:9-10 to speak and hold not thy peace. Vision played a major part in Paul’s life. We all need a vision to keep from perishing in these last days! -Dr Ron Goldbolt; Word of truth Ministry |
Here are a couple scriptures that will tell you a little about that. Proverbs 29:18, “Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction.” In other words, if we’re not looking for his direction we will be wondering and stumbling all over the place but when we seek His instruction, He will reveal it. Psalm 16:11, “You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” You will have joy and peace deep in your soul when you allow Him to fill you.
When you know God, you will find Freedom and Discover Purpose which will equal Making a Difference. There are several steps to discovering your purpose: 1. Scripture – Write down scriptures that have been a continued go to in your life. Take time to reflect on these. If you don’t have any that you can think of then search out scriptures that talk about who God is, how you came to be, what he expects from those who love him and so on. 2. Journal on these scriptures – See if you can find a common theme and reflect on the times you have turned to them and what function they played in your life. 3. Look up as many scriptures as you can find that will help answer questions such as: Why do I exist? What is my response to be for God’s grace and salvation on my behalf? Where do I find my place in God’s story? 4. Write out your biblical statement. Think outside the box, outside of your restraints. Look over your notes from the previous 3 steps and look for common threads or thoughts. Make this statement simple but focus on the “being” before you think about the “doing. A simple format could go like this: I exist to ___________ so that ________. -Rhonda Gould |
Seven years ago, the Lord blessed me with a vision of the children of Clay County, Ky., lined up single file coming to the Oneida campus from the surrounding hills and hollers. While that vision is still very vivid and humbles me each time I look upon our mountain children, the value of that vision drives me to continue our efforts. Had that vision not taken root in my heart and mind, I would not be able to take the pride I do today as I watch the Lord’s vision come to fruition.
The Lord provides vision so that we do not have to perish. Jesus, at Calvary’s cross, ensured we would not perish.
What vision has the Lord given you? Perhaps your vision will come from your pastor, God’s Word, a dream, or something else. We should always remember God values each of us and His word teaches us how to walk in obedience to Him.
Perhaps you have dismissed a God-given vision because you thought the dream was too simple. Be ready for whatever the Lord has in store for you so that you don’t miss the blessing. Praise the Lord for providing the vision we need to do His work. - Larry Gritton; Oneida Baptist Institute in Oneida, Ky.

Proverbs 29:19-24:
19 A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer.
20 Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
21 He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him become his son at the length.
22 An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.
23 A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
24 Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing, and bewrayeth it not.

Proverbs 29:25: Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe."
|
The usage of the word "snare," the way I see it, is an important part of the premise of this verse. A snare is a trap which is specifically designed to catch people unaware. A person subject to the fear of man is generally totally oblivious to the problems it may cause. Most of the Proverbs contrast wisdom with foolishness and it is in this case that a person who is headed toward that snare does not trust the Lord. And there is no middle ground here. It is either Yes to the Lord and be kept safe or No and be subject to the snares of trust in man.

You must rule over fear in every area of your life, or it will rule over you. Whenever I sense fear coming at me, I realize the devil is trying to get me to back off or go the wrong way! Don’t give in, it’s a trap to throw you off course.
Here’s the problem, fear is rooted in self-preservation. That’s what resulted when Adam and Eve sinned, and the enemy uses the weaknesses of our flesh against us. Secondly, understand that fear comes from a demonic spirit, according to 2 Timothy 1:7.
But when you make Jesus your Lord, you can take authority over it in the name of Jesus! “For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name.” (Philippians 2:9) - David Blair

Proverbs 29:26-27:
26 Many seek the ruler's favour; but every man's judgment cometh from the Lord.
27 An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.
