Proverbs 11
Proverbs 11:1:
Dishonest scales are an abomination to the Lord, But a just weight is His delight. |
a. Dishonest scales are an abomination: The term abomination was reserved for terrible, horrific things. This shows just how deeply God cares about simple honesty and fairness. He regards dishonest scales as an abomination.
b. A just weight is His delight: To the degree that God condemns the dishonest who defraud, to the same degree He has delight in just and fair business practices. i. The Law of Moses clearly commanded God’s people to have honest scales (Leviticus 19:35-36 and Deuteronomy 25:13-16). -Enduring Word Commentary |
Proverbs 11:2-9:
2 When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.
3 The integrity of the upright will guide them, But the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them.
4 Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But righteousness delivers from death.
5 The righteousness of the blameless will direct his way aright, But the wicked will fall by his own wickedness.
6 The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, But the unfaithful will be caught by their lust.
7 When a wicked man dies, his expectation will perish, And the hope of the unjust perishes.
8 The righteous is delivered from trouble, And it comes to the wicked instead.
9 The hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor, But through knowledge the righteous will be delivered.

Dec 9, 2021: Jerusalem Post: In August, what was then Channel 20 found itself in hot water after it expressed joy at the death of Ra'am MK Saeed Alharomi who had passed away due to a heart attack.
The Channel 20 article on Alharomi's death and Facebook post sharing the article began with a quote from Proverbs 11:10, reading, "When the wicked perish there are shouts of joy." The article described the MK as a "terrorist supporter from the Ra'am faction." Shortly after it was published, the right-wing news source apologized for the article and removed the statements from the article and Facebook. |
Proverbs 11:14:
Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety. |
The Bible is full of scriptures admonishing us to get Godly counsel, particularly in the Proverbs. (See Proverbs 1:5, 11:14, 12:15, 13:10, 15:22, 19:20, and 20:18.) Even Moses benefitted from good counsel from his father-in-law. (Exodus 18:13-23) The Bible also admonishes us to stay away from ungodly counsel. (See Psalms 1:1-3 and Proverbs 12:5.) In 1 Kings 12:6-11, King Rehoboam took some bad counsel that ultimately split the kingdom of Israel in two, and both kingdoms were taken into captivity. -The Stream

Proverbs 11:15-30:
15 He who is surety for a stranger will suffer, But one who hates being surety is secure.
16 A gracious woman retains honor, But ruthless men retain riches.
17 The merciful man does good for his own soul, But he who is cruel troubles his own flesh.
18 The wicked man does deceptive work, But he who sows righteousness will have a sure reward.
19 As righteousness leads to life, So he who pursues evil pursues it to his own death.
20 Those who are of a perverse heart are an abomination to the Lord, But the blameless in their ways are His delight.
21 Though they join forces, the wicked will not go unpunished; But the posterity of the righteous will be delivered.
22 As a ring of gold in a swine’s snout, So is a lovely woman who lacks discretion.
23 The desire of the righteous is only good, But the expectation of the wicked is wrath.
24 There is one who scatters, yet increases more; And there is one who withholds more than is right, But it leads to poverty.
25 The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself.
26 The people will curse him who withholds grain, But blessing will be on the head of him who sells it.
27 He who earnestly seeks good finds favor, But trouble will come to him who seeks evil.
28 He who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like foliage.
29 He who troubles his own house will inherit the wind, And the fool will be servant to the wise of heart.
30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who wins souls is wise.

Former Bengal Chad Johnson Leaves $1,000 Tip at Cincinnati Restaurant
The second year of the COVID-19 pandemic kicked off with diners leaving massive surprise tips in bars and restaurants throughout the city. But then "Ochocinco" went and upped the game — dramatically. He left a $1,000 tip for a server at Redlands Grill. In a post on Twitter later, Johnson took a photo of the receipt and captioned it, “Proverbs 11:25 (Cincinnati edition).” The bible verse reads, "A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed." |
Generosity is what God is like! Imitate God and look for opportunities to bless and encourage someone today, and you will be blessed, i.e., your “soul will be made rich.” — Ken & Betty Eberly, Behold Your God Ministries
Proverbs 11:18:
The wicked man does deceptive work, But he who sows righteousness will have a sure reward. |
The man who works himself to death to get ahead seldom enjoys the riches he gathers, for he had no time to relax and enjoy them, and then he is gone. While hearing of his growing assets, he finds himself discontent and wanting more (Ec 5:10). But a righteous man does not even want the danger or vanity of riches, so he prays for modest income and assets rather than wealth, and he is thrilled with the convenient outcome (Pr 30:7-9).
A righteous man may not see his reward for a while, for sowing is a term taken from farming, where men wait many weeks and even months for the reward of a harvest. The exhortation is to never faint, “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not” (Gal 6:9). -Let God be True |

Proverbs 11:26:
26 The people will curse him who withholds grain, But blessing will be on the head of him who sells it. |
When Jonas Salk, who developed the first successful polio vaccine in 1955, was asked who owned its patent, he answered, “There is no patent. Could you patent the sun?”
People who control products necessary for life, like food or medicines, and decline to press their economic advantage to its fullest show the quality of mercy, of which Jesus said, “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy (Matthew 5:7).” Solomon teaches that there will be a blessing on the head of such people, from neighbors no doubt, but also from God. The wise will covet such blessings more than the windfall profit from the providentially granted possession of grain in a time of poor harvest. That windfall profit comes with people cursing the profiteer. --Bill Edgar; Reformed Presbyterian |

#1 “Whoever brings ruin on their family will inherit only wind,”
A ruined family has nothing to leave behind as an inheritance. It is considered a good thing when a dying man can leave an inheritance “to his children’s children” (Prov 13:22). -Connect Us |
Proverbs 11:31:
Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed on the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner. |
Prosperity does not mean having all the money we want, nor even necessarily a lot of it, but our having adequate financial resources, on a day to day basis, so that no one under our financial care (e.g. church, family, employees, etc.) is deprived of the necessities of life because of us (2 Corinthians 9:6-11, note especially verse 8, where "sufficiency" means "the state of one who supports himself without aid from others").
