Dec 3, 2019: WUSA: Pastor who helped save his church from gentrification retires
After 27 years, Pastor Michael Bledsoe is retiring from Riverside Baptist Church at 7th and Maine Avenue, Southwest across from the Southwest Wharf. “As seasons come and go pastors come and go,” said Pastor Bledsoe. “So it’s time to move on.” Dec 28, 2014: Michael Bledsoe: Riverside Baptist Church: Humans of The World: Welcome. Stop. Happy New Year. Mar 1, 2014: The Church Folk Revolution: Has Paula White Taken Heed to Pastor Bledsoe’s Open Letter to White Christians in Florida? Does race have to play a part here? No. But, since black women make up most of the church attendance in the black community and have sons also, is Paula White not concerned about young black men being gunned down by white men and not serving time for murder in her own state? |

RELIGION ON THE RECORD: Feb 16, 2014: It has not been made clear to me why Pastor Michael Bledsoe would address a letter to the White Christian of Florida in order to get them to demand that the "Stand Your Ground" law be removed from the Florida Law books. In an addendum about 10 days later he added a note to clarify that it was addressed to white Christians and not white leaders. He states: "White Christians of Florida, speak up for justice. Stand up and demand that this license for murder be removed from your books, from your lives. Stop defending it. " To single out white Christians appears to me do a bit of race baiting as it would suggest that the decision on the law is in the hands of white Christians as opposed to any other race. Granted, this was an issue raised in the firestorm involving the shooting of Trayvon Martin, and emotions over fact seemed to be the driving force behind many of the augments at the time. Certainly Bledsoe has the right to free speech, and I don't even consider suggesting he cant write what he wrote. I just don't see the point. It would have been better left as a call to Floridans, in general, to rescind the law. Specifically calling on white people to act just seems to invoke racism rather then pacify it, if even that was his intent.(SOURCE: Pastor Michael Bledsoe: Rivseride Baptist Church: "An Open Letter from Pastor Michael Bledsoe")
