Mark 6
Mark 6:3:
Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. |
The word translated “carpenter” is a more generic term than our English word. It conveys something more than the specific handicraft designated by the latter, and implies generally a fashioner of items in wood.
Jesus, the carpenter, is an example to all good workmen. The conviction cant be too forcibly urged that the only dishonorable employments are immoral or dishonest ones. No work can degrade you unless you first degrade your work. It is not work, but bad workmanship, that is disgraceful. |
Mark 6:50:
for they all saw Him and were troubled. But immediately He talked with them and said to them, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” |
