Elton John musical about Tammy Faye Bakker headed for Broadway A musical on the controversial late wife of disgraced televangelist Jim Bakker will debut Saturday on Broadway at the Palace Theatre in New York City. The show Tammy Faye characterizes her as a traveling preacher’s wife who put the fun back into faith, according to the musical’s summary. The show originally debuted on London’s West End in 2022 with performer Katie Brayben as Tammy. Brayben will reprise her role alongside Broadway veteran Christian Borle for the show, currently scheduled to run through March 2025. Popularly known for his mainstream pop music career, Elton John’s Broadway composition credits include The Lion King, Billy Elliot, and Aida. Jake Shears, a 2000s pop rock singer, penned the lyrics based on a book by British playwright James Graham. Warmer and less judgmental than the previous generation’s preachers of doom, Jim and Tammy seemed kind and approachable, even if their exceedingly lavish lifestyles, built largely through their followers’ donations, set them apart. Prosperity gospel helped explain the wealth: God’s blessings would result in material well-being for those who obeyed.
June 27, 2023: Boing Boing reported that a prominent evangelist warns that Bud Light has triggered the End Times.......At least, it is according to Stephen E. Strang, an influential evangelical leader and author of "God and Donald Trump," who says Target, Kohl's, and Bud Light are part of a Satanic plot that will usher in the End Times, as prophesied in the Bible. In his essay, Strang calls for holy warriors to prepare for spiritual conflict by training like Navy SEALs. To bolster his argument that the end is nigh, he cites his good friend, Jim Bakker, a criminal fraudster and felon: "My good friend, Jim Bakker, has studied the book of Revelation extensively, and has provided great warnings about what is heading our way in his book, "You Can Make It." He says Christians should stand up against the things of the world rather than conforming to them. Jim Bakker hasn’t been to Israel in decades, and Lori Bakker has never been there.They got the idea to come when Cahn, author of “The Harbinger” and the inspiration behind “The Isaiah 9:10 Judgment,” made a guest appearance on the Bakkers’ daily TV show. “Jim Bakker is one of the giants and pioneers of Christian television,” said Cahn. “He helped found TBN and PTL and worked with Pat Robertson in the early years of ‘The 700 Club.’ He sat with world leaders and presidents in the White House. And yet the most powerful part of his story is what happened after being humbled under God’s hand, a humbling from which he emerged a changed man, a man of profound humility, compassion and grace – and with even more zeal for the Lord.” [Joseph] Farah said the Bakkers recognize something he has seen himself as someone who has traveled to Israel frequently over the last 35 years – “there’s no better way to see Israel than with Jonathan Cahn.”

October 21, 2014: Right Wing Watch reported that much like his fellow doomsday prophet Glenn Beck, televangelist Jim Bakker regularly dedicates segments of his show to selling survivalist food supplies while warning of the country’s imminent peril. Last week, Bakker discussed the Ebola outbreak and other possible calamities, including a collapse of the electrical grid. Bakker said that while “90-some percent of all Americans will be dead in less than a year” if such a breakdown occurs, you and your family will be secure if you take advantage of his special “time of trouble” offer to purchase packages containing between 91 and 273 desserts, including ice cream sandwiches, chocolates and pudding. “Order your food, do it while there’s yet time,” he said in his sendoff message.
