Pastor Twists Himself In Knots To Claim Being Pro-IVF Is Pro-Life Amid an ongoing national conversation around IVF after Alabama’s Supreme Court ruling, attempts by both Republicans and Democrats to “protect IVF,” and Tim Walz’s Stolen Vitro controversy, the Dallas Morning News published, “I’m a pro-life pastor. IVF allowed me to become a dad.” Fox News reprinted it. Even though the author, Jeremiah Johnston, has a Ph.D., M.A., M.Div., and B.A., he gets both biology and Christianity wrong. As usual with matters of marriage and family, the adult frames himself (and his wife) as victims. Johnston details the suffering they experienced due to infertility. While infertility is incredibly painful, when we get IVF wrong — or any parenthood question — it’s the hundreds of thousands of lives discarded and frozen by the fertility industry who are the actual victims, not the adults. August 23, 2024: Church Leaders reported: Jeremiah Johnston, an SBC pastor and New Testament scholar, told ChurchLeaders that he is “thankful President Trump promises to protect IVF.” The issue is personal to Johnston, as he and his wife, Audrey, struggled with infertility for “a painful five years.”
However, Johnston said, “we have to push harder. Currently in our country, IVF is a privilege only for those who can afford it. President Trump supporting reproductive rights should also include the economic benefit to families.” “Prohibiting IVF will indeed prevent children from entering our world,” Johnston added. “Whereas defending IVF will allow future parents to fulfill their God-given desire to nurture a child.” August 25, 2024: Johnston Op/Ed is posted to Fox News: Prohibiting IVF will indeed prevent children from entering our world. Whereas defending IVF will allow future parents to fulfill their God-given desire to nurture a child. That’s what the pro-life position should entail. December 18, 2018: Apologist and New Testament scholar Dr. Jeremiah Johnston has argued that suicide is not the unforgivable sin. "The only sin that God cannot forgive is the sin of rejecting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior," he told CP earlier. "Do people who commit suicide go to Hell? Some people teach that suicide is the 'unforgivable sin.' God forgives that sin. Is it a sin? Absolutely. But the salvation we receive from Jesus Christ is eternal, regardless of our mental state or our spiritual maturity or immaturity. Otherwise, the Gospel is void. Do you know how many Christians die unexpectedly with unconfessed sin in their life?"
July 3, 2014: Houston Baptist University announced that Dr. Jeremiah Johnston has joined the School of Christian Thought faculty as an Associate Professor and will also serve as special assistant to President Robert B. Sloan, Jr. A New Testament scholar and apologist, Dr. Johnston speaks regularly on university campuses, and at churches and popular venues. He has over ten years experience as a teaching pastor in the mega-church arena, and is adept at making technical information accessible at the lay level.
