Greg Laurie (born December 10, 1952) is an American evangelical author, pastor and evangelist who serves as the senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship, based in Riverside, California. He also is the founder of Harvest Crusades. Laurie is also the subject of the 2023 film Jesus Revolution, which tells the story of how he converted to Christianity and got his start in ministry in the midst of the spiritual awakening known as "The Jesus Revolution"
American Evangelicals Interpret Israel-Hamas War As A Prelude to End Times
Other prominent evangelicals have taken up the theme in their sermons. The day following Hamas’ attack, in which Israeli cities were barraged and some 1,200 people were massacred, Greg Laurie, senior pastor at the Harvest Riverside Fellowship in California, framed the violence in terms of End Times prophecy. “The Bible tells us in the End Times that Israel will be scattered and regathered,” Laurie said. “The Bible predicted hundreds of thousands of years ago that a large force from the North of Israel will attack her after she (Israel) was regathered and one of the allies with modern Russia, or Magog, will be Iran or Persia.” Before calling the church to pray for peace in Jerusalem, Laurie added, “If you get up in the morning and read this headline “Russia Attacks Israel,” fasten your seatbelt because you’re seeing Bible prophecy fulfilled in your lifetime.”

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 says, “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord” (NKJV). The words “caught up” are from the root word “harpazo,” which is translated “rapturus” in Latin, and you get your English word “rapture” from it. So after the Rapture happens, a mysterious, charismatic man emerges on the scene that the Bible calls the beast, and the Antichrist. The Antichrist inaugurates a seven year tribulation period. So the Rapture, then the Antichrist, then the Tribulation (so you can kind of get an idea of how things fit together). The Tribulation period begins peacefully. The Antichrist deceives people because he brings global peace temporarily. In fact, the Bible says through peace, he will deceive many. Then this all culminates in the Battle of Armageddon, fought at the end of the Tribulation period, and then comes the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

What Church Is Jesus Revolution Based On?
Jesus Revolution tells the story of Greg Laurie and how he was involved in the Jesus movement in California during the late 1960s and early 1970s. The movement was an evangelical Christian movement characterized by the increase of religion in the state, thanks to the blend of counterculture with Evangelicalism. The 2023 Christian drama film pulls inspiration from the autobiographical book of the same name that the real Greg Laurie co-wrote in 2018. Plus, the church depicted in the movie is based on a place of worship that exists in real life.
Joel Courtney stars as Laurie in the film, and the rest of the cast includes Kelsey Grammer as Chuck Smith, Jonathan Roumie as Lonnie Frisbee, Kimberly Williams-Paisley as Charlene McDaniel, Anna Grace Barlow as Cathe Martin, and Nic Bishop as Dick. Along with Courtney's Laurie, Grammer's character Chuck Smith is an instrumental figure in the movie and is based on a real pastor. As a matter of fact, the church that Greg and Cathe stumble upon in Jesus Revolution is inspired by Smith's chapel. (Sarah Little/Screen Rant 8/3/23)

“Suffering is a part of every life. Rain falls upon every life. All people encounter tragedy. Everybody struggles through hardship—not just Christians. But for the believer, for the child of God, whatever comes into our life first comes through the grid of God’s plan and purpose for our lives. There are no accidents in the life of the believer.”

“I don’t think there’s anything we can do to make a revival happen,” he went on. “But I think we can prepare the ground.”
Laurie said America and the church need a “spiritual awakening…we need to return to what it means to be a real Christian.”

Nov 30, 2022: Gregs Blog: Johnny Cash: Walking the Line Between Good and Evil
As a Christian for almost 50 years and a pastor for decades, I know that verse well. I also find it interesting that it was chosen for “The Man in Black’s” memorial.
“Let the words of my mouth. . .” That’s ironic, given that nobody had a voice or cadence like Johnny Cash. A touchstone in my life dating back to my childhood, I remember watching Cash perform on television with my grandparents and hearing that deep booming voice—once called “The Voice of America.”

Sept 4, 2014: Christian Post: Evangelist Greg Laurie Disappointed Director Angelina Jolie Chose to Leave Out World War II Hero's Christian Faith in 'Unbroken' Movie
Evangelist Greg Laurie, who knew World War II hero Louis Zamperini well through public interviews and time spent together privately before he died on July 2, said he was disappointed to hear that the film based on his life as adapted from the book Unbroken, will not include the story of his faith in Jesus Christ. |
"I'm disappointed that director Angelina Jolie has chosen to leave this vital and essential part of Louis Zamperini's life out of this much anticipated film," Laurie, who is perhaps best known for leading the Harvest crusades, told The Christian Post recently. "To me, the most amazing part of his story is not just surviving the incomprehensible beatings in the Japanese internment camp, or being adrift at sea for over 47 days. It was the fact that Louis was able, because of his conversion and newfound Christian faith, to go back to Japan to the very guards who mistreated him and forgive them, as well as tell them about Jesus Christ." 9.4.14 |
